Book and Field Guide Illustrations
Being a book illustrator demands both versatility and the ability to take a consistent, long term perspective. Unlike a TV commercial or brand film storyboard, a book project typically extends over months of work. This can involve meticulous research as well as drafting, redrafting and refining the finished illustrations for publication.
As a mountaineer and illustrator I have a unique insight into how to convey the craft of rock climbing and have been able to use that by collaborating with authors on the publication of several highly regarded field guides. As you can see from the examples though, it is essential to adapt the illustrative style to the requirements of the job.
